STUART GARY: This is Space Time series 26 episode 92 for
00:00:03
broadcast on the second of August 2023. Coming up on Space
00:00:08
Time spectacular evidence during congressional hearings on
00:00:12
unidentified anomalous phenomena, discovery of diverse
00:00:16
organic materials on Mars and was Olympus Mons a giant Martian
00:00:22
Volcanic Island. All that and more coming up on Space Time.
00:00:28
GENERIC: Welcome to Space Time with Stuart Garry.
00:00:48
STUART GARY: Well, for years, they've been dismissed as the
00:00:51
stuff of misinformation, misidentification and conspiracy
00:00:54
theories. But now the United States Congress has heard
00:00:58
evidence from senior military and intelligence officials
00:01:02
claiming that for years it's been collecting the crashed
00:01:05
remains of unidentified flying objects and the bodies of non
00:01:09
humans so called biologics.
00:01:12
Three witnesses have given sworn evidence to a special
00:01:15
congressional hearing about extraterrestrial spacecraft
00:01:18
allegedly in the possession of the US military, former US
00:01:22
military intelligence official turned whistleblower David
00:01:25
Grouch, who served 14 years as an intelligence officer in the
00:01:29
Air Force and National Geospatial Intelligence Agency
00:01:32
told house lawmakers that Congress was being kept in the
00:01:35
dark about unidentified anomalous phenomena.
00:01:38
What you and I would call UFOs and Grouch isn't some
00:01:42
disgruntled employee. He served on two Pentagon task force
00:01:46
investigating UFOs until earlier this year. He told Congress that
00:01:51
for decades, the US military had been operating a UAP crash
00:01:54
retrieval and reverse engineering program.
00:01:58
Grouch told the House Oversight Committee's National Security
00:02:01
subcommittee that executive branch agencies have withheld
00:02:04
information about the mysterious objects for years. He testified
00:02:09
that he knew people who were injured, attempting to reverse
00:02:12
engineer recovered spacecraft.
00:02:14
However, despite many hours of grilling, he gave no actual
00:02:18
concrete evidence to support any of his claims. And he admitted
00:02:22
that he personally was denied access to those programs.
00:02:25
Despite repeatedly requesting it instead, he interviewed the
00:02:30
officials who had direct knowledge of the spacecraft and
00:02:33
the so called biologics recovered from them.
00:02:36
He then accused the military of misappropriating funds to shield
00:02:39
these operations as black ops from congressional oversight,
00:02:43
the Pentagon had previously denied Grouch's claims but the
00:02:47
issue gained widespread attention from Congress and the
00:02:50
public a few years ago following the release of cockpit footage
00:02:53
showing several incidents involving enc carters between US
00:02:56
Navy F-18.
00:02:58
Hornets and UAP typically showing non descript objects
00:03:02
moving through the air at high speeds with no apparent method
00:03:05
of propulsion. Most have been attributed to either balloons or
00:03:08
optical artifacts with the camera equipment as well as
00:03:13
Rush.
00:03:13
The panel also heard testimony from two former US Navy fighter
00:03:17
pilots, Ryan Graves who has spoken about encountering UAP on
00:03:21
training missions.
00:03:22
And David Fr who spotted a large object and captured the now
00:03:26
infamous tic tac video during a flight off the coast of
00:03:30
California in 2004 Graves was an F-18 fighter pilot stationed at
00:03:36
Virginia Beach in 2014 when his squadron first began detecting
00:03:40
unknown objects described as dark gray or black cubes inside
00:03:44
clear spheres where the apex or tip of the cubes was touching
00:03:48
the inside of the sphere.
00:03:50
He says a fellow pilot told him about one incident about 10
00:03:52
miles off the coast which an object between five and 15 ft in
00:03:56
diameter flew between two fa 18 s and came within 50 ft of the
00:04:01
aircraft. Breves says that if these ups are foreign military
00:04:05
drones, it's an urgent National Security problem.
00:04:09
He says if there's something else, then it's an issue for
00:04:12
science. In either case, he says unidentified objects are a
00:04:15
concern for flight safety and the American people deserve to
00:04:19
know what's happening.
00:04:20
Meanwhile, Freier recounted his 2004 encounter with an object
00:04:24
off the California Coast, telling lawmakers that he and
00:04:27
his wingman spotted the smooth seamless oval shaped object
00:04:31
hovering just over the water before it suddenly rapidly
00:04:34
climbed about 12 ft in the air and then accelerated away
00:04:38
and disappeared.
00:04:40
He says it was then detected 100 kilometers away. Less than a
00:04:43
minute later in 2017, The New York Times released a report
00:04:48
detailing evidence of a secret Pentagon program that tracked
00:04:52
and stated UAP reports. Then in 2020 the Pentagon itself
00:04:57
released three grainy videos of those UAP.
00:05:00
And in May this year, NASA hosted a public hearing about
00:05:04
UAP explaining to the public how it would investigate reports in
00:05:08
the future. Now, the thing to remember about these
00:05:11
congressional hearings is that if any of the three witnesses
00:05:15
lied or gave false evidence, they could be charged with
00:05:18
perjury spending years in prison.
00:05:20
So what does all this mean? Well, either these three
00:05:24
witnesses are all delusional or liars or they're telling the
00:05:28
truth and both options are frightening. Here is some of the
00:05:32
congressional testimony.
00:05:34
GENERIC: Thank you, Mr Chairman and good morning to our
00:05:37
witnesses who are testifying today. I want to thank each of
00:05:39
you for being here to discuss a topic of grave importance to our
00:05:42
National Security. Earlier this year, a Chinese spy balloon was
00:05:46
shot down off the coast of my home state of South Carolina.
00:05:49
Since the Roswell incident in 1947 many Americans have
00:05:54
wondered about the dangers of unknown objects crisscrossing
00:05:57
our skies, whether these are us or whether from phenomena
00:06:01
advanced technology from American allied or enemy forces
00:06:04
or some more out of this world.
00:06:06
So my first question, I have several questions and I'll, I if
00:06:09
we could just be quick on these first two, I'm gonna ask each of
00:06:12
you the same question. And then I'll get to each of you
00:06:14
individually. The first one when you reported your experiences
00:06:18
with the UAP, did you face any repercussions with your
00:06:21
superiors? Yes or no.
00:06:23
No.
00:06:24
No, I've actually never seen anything personally. Believe it
00:06:27
or not. So.
00:06:28
All right. And then do, do you believe there's an active
00:06:31
disinformation campaign within our government to deny existence
00:06:35
of UAs, yes or no?
00:06:36
I don't have an answer to that as previous, previously stated
00:06:38
publicly.
00:06:39
Yes. I think previously with like project Blue Book. Yes. But
00:06:42
currently I don't speak for the United States government.
00:06:44
Ok, thank you. I have a few questions for Mr Graves. What
00:06:48
percentage of UAP sightings in your belief go unreported by our
00:06:51
pilots.
00:06:52
This is an approximation based off of my personal experience,
00:06:55
speaking with a number of pilots, but I would estimate
00:06:58
we're somewhere near 5% reporting perhaps.
00:07:00
So like 95% basically don't report seeing UAP. That's just
00:07:05
my personal estimate in the incident on Virginia Beach. Do
00:07:09
you believe the Navy took the danger to your aircraft
00:07:11
seriously after it was reported?
00:07:15
A few questions for Mr Faver as an expert naval aviator. Have
00:07:19
you ever seen an object that looked and moved like the tic
00:07:21
tac UAP? No, did the tic tac UAP move in such a way that defied
00:07:27
the laws of physics the way we understand them.
00:07:30
Yes, many dismiss reports as classified weapons testing by
00:07:36
our own government. But in your experience as a pilot does our
00:07:39
government typically test advanced weapons systems right
00:07:43
next to multi million dollar jets without informing our
00:07:46
pilots.
00:07:48
Test ranges for that.
00:07:49
It took over 15 years for your encounter with the TIC tac to be
00:07:53
declassified. Do you feel there was a good reason to prevent
00:07:55
lawmakers from having access to this footage?
00:07:58
No, I just think it was ignored when it happened and it just sat
00:08:01
somewhere in a file, never got reported.
00:08:04
It, it, it happens a lot up here shocker. Mr, a couple of
00:08:09
questions for you too, sir this morning. What percentage of uaps
00:08:12
do you feel are adequately investigated by the US
00:08:15
government? Of the 5% that are reported?
00:08:18
I can only speak for my personal leadership over at NGA. I tried
00:08:23
to look at every report that came through that I could
00:08:25
triage. So do you.
00:08:27
Believe that officials at the highest levels of our National
00:08:29
Security apparatus have unlawfully withheld information
00:08:33
from Congress and subverted our oversight authority.
00:08:37
There are certain elected leaders that had more
00:08:40
information that I'm not sure what they've shared with certain
00:08:43
gang of eight members or et cetera. But certainly I, I would
00:08:48
not be surprised. Ok.
00:08:50
You say that the government is in possession of potentially non
00:08:53
human spacecraft based on your experience and extensive
00:08:57
conversations with experts. Do you believe our government has
00:09:00
made contact with intelligent extraterrestrials.
00:09:04
Something I can't discuss in public setting?
00:09:08
Ok. And I can't ask when you think this occurred? If you
00:09:12
believe we have crashed craft stated earlier. Do we have the
00:09:16
bodies of the pilots who piloted this craft?
00:09:18
As I've stated publicly already in my news Nation interview,
00:09:21
biologics came with some of these recoveries.
00:09:27
Were they, I guess human or non human biologics, non human?
00:09:31
And that was the assessment of people with direct knowledge on
00:09:34
the program. I talked to that are currently still on the
00:09:36
program.
00:09:36
And was this documentary ever's video photos, eye witness? Like
00:09:41
how would that be determined?
00:09:43
The specific documentation I would have to talk to you about.
00:09:49
Ok, so, and, and you may or may not be able to answer my last
00:09:51
question and maybe we get into a skiff at the next hearing that
00:09:54
we have but who in the government either what agency,
00:09:58
sub agency, what contractors who should be called into the next
00:10:03
hearing about uaps either in a public setting or even in a
00:10:07
private setting.
00:10:07
And, and you probably can't name names but what agencies or
00:10:10
organizations contractors, et cetera, do we need to call in to
00:10:13
get these questions answered? Whether it's about funding what
00:10:16
programs are happening and what's out there?
00:10:18
I can give you a specific cooperative and hostile witness
00:10:22
list of specific individuals that were in those. And how soon
00:10:26
can we get that list? I'm happy to provide that to you after the
00:10:28
hearing.
00:10:29
Super, thank you. And I yelled.
00:10:30
Back time to miss Luna Mr Rush in speaking to you yesterday. I
00:10:36
just wanted to follow up on Representative Raskin's
00:10:39
questions in the last couple of years. Have you had incidences
00:10:44
that have caused you to be in fear for your life for
00:10:47
addressing these issues?
00:10:49
Yes.
00:10:49
Personally, I just want everyone to note that he's coming forward
00:10:54
in fear of his life to put in perspective. If they were really
00:10:57
not scared about this information coming out, why
00:10:59
would someone be intimidated like that? To your knowledge are
00:11:03
nhis working with adversarial foreign governments in either
00:11:06
technology exchange programs or back engineering programs?
00:11:10
I don't have data on that. I'm not sure.
00:11:12
Have you heard or you had people come forward to present that
00:11:15
evidence, not that particular evidence that you just espoused?
00:11:19
Ok. On the 19th of April, Doctor Kirkpatrick, head of Arrow had
00:11:23
said that he did not find any evidence of uaps.
00:11:25
You also stated that you had in your interview that you had
00:11:28
briefed him on information that you were uncovering, but that he
00:11:32
did not follow up with you were the items that you divulged to
00:11:35
him to National Security.
00:11:37
Yes. Him and I had a classified conversation in April 2022
00:11:41
before he took over a in July 2022 and I provided him some
00:11:47
concerns I had, do.
00:11:48
You know why he might not have fallen up with you?
00:11:50
Unfortunately, I cannot read his mind. I wish he did. I was, I
00:11:55
was happy to give sage counsel to him on where to look when he
00:11:58
took the helm of Arrow.
00:12:00
Ok. And then my last question for you before I move to Mr
00:12:03
Graves is, you received prior approval from the defense
00:12:06
department to speak on certain issues, correct.
00:12:08
Correct through, do dod prepublication and security
00:12:11
review. And I just want to remind the public we're just
00:12:15
looking from a security perspective. These are my own
00:12:18
personal views and opinions. Not the departments.
00:12:21
Ok. I'm asking that though, mainly because I think that
00:12:23
there are many people that would like to discredit you. So it
00:12:27
does bring a certain amount of credibility to your testimony.
00:12:30
I'm required by law to do that as a former intelligence officer
00:12:32
or I go to jail for revealing classified information.
00:12:35
We don't want you to go to jail.
00:12:37
My next question would actually be for Mr Graves. Can you please
00:12:42
explain to me in detail the event that occurred at Van Der
00:12:46
Beg Air Force.
00:12:46
Base in the 2003 time frame. A large group of Boeing
00:12:53
contractors were operating near one of the launch facilities at
00:12:56
Feinberg Air Force Base when they observed a very large 100
00:12:59
yard sided red square approached the base from the ocean and
00:13:06
hover at low altitude over one of the launch facilities. This
00:13:10
object remained for about 45 seconds or so. Before darting
00:13:14
off over the mountains.
00:13:16
There was a similar event within 24 hours later in the evening.
00:13:19
This was a morning event, I believe 8 45 in the morning,
00:13:23
later in the evening, post sunset, there were reports of
00:13:27
other sightings on base including some aggressive
00:13:29
behaviors.
00:13:30
These objects were approaching some of the security guards at
00:13:33
rapid speeds before darting off. And this is information that was
00:13:37
received through one of the witnesses that have approached
00:13:40
me at Americans for Safe Aerospace.
00:13:42
Was this documented in any official form, whether it was a
00:13:45
police blotter?
00:13:46
Yes, they have official documentation and record from
00:13:49
the event that the witness held over the years.
00:13:51
And I'm not going to ask you to do it right now for time
00:13:53
reasons, but you'd be able to sketch what was witness,
00:13:56
correct? And you have you seen that before on any other
00:13:59
equipment and or during your flight time?
00:14:00
I have not seen what they've described. This object was
00:14:04
estimated to be almost the size of a football field and I have
00:14:07
not seen anything personally that large.
00:14:09
Ok. And then another question on follow up referencing the gimble
00:14:12
video go fast incident. Can you just clarify because to our
00:14:15
understanding the footage was actually cut off at a certain
00:14:18
point, but what happens at the end of that video just for those
00:14:21
Americans specifically that are wanting to know about the rest
00:14:23
of that footage.
00:14:24
Certainly there was some uncertainty or you know,
00:14:27
instability with the object, it, it seemed to rock a bit. And
00:14:30
that's the last last I had seen in the video, much of the data
00:14:34
that I would recommend be analyzed would consist of radar
00:14:36
data that would provide precise kinematics on the object as well
00:14:41
as the fleet of objects that are operating nearby. Ok.
00:14:43
And follow up in regards to the reporting procedures that Mr
00:14:46
Garcia had addressed on as well as Representative Burchett with
00:14:50
the FAA to your understanding, pilots that are seeing this
00:14:53
commercial airline pilots, are they receiving cease and desist
00:14:56
letters from corporations for coming forward with information
00:14:59
in regards to safety for potential air airline
00:15:02
passengers.
00:15:03
I have been made privy to conversations with commercial
00:15:06
aviators who have received cease and desist orders.
00:15:08
So the American public should know that corporations are
00:15:11
putting their own reputations on the basis, not the line but
00:15:15
ahead of the safety of the American people. And I think,
00:15:18
would you agree with that statement? It appears so? Ok.
00:15:21
And I guess this would be my last, I'm out of time. I yelled,
00:15:25
I'll be.
00:15:26
STUART GARY: Back this Space Time. Still to come evidence of
00:15:31
diverse organic material on Mars and was Olympus Mons the giant
00:15:36
Martian volcano actually a volcanic island, all that and
00:15:40
more still to come on Space Time.
00:15:58
A new study has detected a diverse range of organic
00:16:01
molecules on the Martian surface. The data was collected
00:16:05
by NASA's Mars Perseverance Rover which has been exploring
00:16:08
the Jero Crater region of the Red Planet since its arrival
00:16:12
there in February 2021 the new findings reported in the journal
00:16:16
nature are consistent with organic molecules on the Martian
00:16:20
surface hinting towards past habitability of the Red Planet.
00:16:24
The study's lead author, Amy Williams from the University Of
00:16:27
Florida says scientists have long been fueled by the
00:16:30
possibility of finding organic carbon on Mars.
00:16:33
And while previous missions provided valuable insights, the
00:16:37
latest research introduces a new line of evidence that adds to
00:16:41
science's understanding of the Red Planet.
00:16:43
The findings indicate the presence of a more intricate
00:16:46
organic geochemical cycle on MARS than previously understood
00:16:51
that suggests the existence of several distinct reservoirs of
00:16:54
potential organic compounds. Notably, the study detected
00:16:58
signals consistent with molecules linked to aqueous
00:17:01
processes indicating that water may have played a key role in
00:17:05
the diverse range of organic matter on Mars.
00:17:08
It shows the key building blocks necessary for life have
00:17:12
persisted on Mars for a far more extended period of time than
00:17:16
previously thought.
00:17:17
Williams an astrobiologist and expert in organic geochemistry
00:17:21
has been at the forefront of the search for life sporting blocks
00:17:24
on the Red Planet. As a participating scientist in the
00:17:28
Perseverance mission, Williams' work centers on the quest for
00:17:31
organic matter on Mars.
00:17:33
She aims to detect habitable environments, search for
00:17:36
potential life materials and uncover evidence of past life.
00:17:40
If it ever existed on Mars, eventually, the on site
00:17:44
materials and samples collected by Perseverance will be sent
00:17:47
back to earth by a future sample return mission.
00:17:50
But that'll be a complex and ambitious process. Spanning many
00:17:54
years. The potential detection of several organic carbon
00:17:58
species on Mars has implications for understanding the Red
00:18:01
Planet's carbon cycle and the potential of the planet to host
00:18:04
life throughout its history.
00:18:06
Organic matter can be formed from various processes, not just
00:18:10
those related to life, geological processes and
00:18:13
chemical reactions can also form organic molecules. And it's
00:18:17
these processes that are favored right now for the origin of
00:18:21
these possible Martian organics.
00:18:23
Until now, organic carbon's only ever been detected by the Mars
00:18:27
Phoenix Lander and the Mars Curiosity Rover Perseverance's
00:18:31
twin which is exploring Gale Crater. They used advanced
00:18:34
techniques like evolved gas analysis and gas chromatography
00:18:38
mass spectrometry.
00:18:40
But this new study introduces a different technique that's also
00:18:44
identified potential simple organic compounds on Mars. An
00:18:48
important part of Perseverance's mission was its chosen landing
00:18:52
site.
00:18:52
The rovers landed in Jero Crater and is now exploring a river
00:18:57
delta where sediments from further upstream flowed into the
00:19:00
crater. As an ancient lake basin. It contains an array of
00:19:04
materials including carbonates, clays, and sulfates and these
00:19:08
minerals have the potential to preserve organic materials and
00:19:12
any possible signs of ancient life that may be there.
00:19:15
Williams says her team didn't initially expect to detect these
00:19:18
potential organic signatures in Jero Crater, but their diversity
00:19:23
and distribution in different units of the crater floor now
00:19:26
suggest potentially different fates of carbon across these
00:19:29
environments.
00:19:31
The authors used a first of its kind instrument called the
00:19:34
scanning habitable environments with ra and luminescence for
00:19:37
organics and chemicals or Sherlock to map the distribution
00:19:41
of organic molecules and minerals on rock surfaces.
00:19:44
Sherlock employs deep ultra violet ramen and fluorescent
00:19:48
spectroscopy to simultaneously measure weak Raman scattering
00:19:52
and throwing fluorescent emissions providing crucial
00:19:55
insights into the organic composition of Mars.
00:19:58
The findings Mark a significant step forward in science's
00:20:02
exploration of the Red Planet, laying the groundwork for future
00:20:06
investigations into the possibility of life beyond
00:20:09
earth. This is Space Time still to come.
00:20:14
New research suggests that the solar system's largest volcano,
00:20:18
Olympus Mons on the Red Planet Mars may once have been a
00:20:22
volcanic island in the Martian Ocean and later in the Science
00:20:26
Report, growing warnings that ancient pathogens trapped for
00:20:30
millennia in ice are now beginning to emerge. All that
00:20:34
and more still to come on Space Time.
00:20:53
New research suggests the solar system's largest volcano. The
00:20:57
Martian giant Olympus Mons was once a volcanic island in the
00:21:01
Martian Ocean. A report in the journal Earth and Planetary
00:21:05
Science letters suggests the 20 m high shield volcano
00:21:09
shares morphological similarities with many active
00:21:12
volcanic islands on earth. Scientists believe these are the
00:21:16
result of contact between liquid water and lava from the volcano.
00:21:21
Similar features seen on the northern flank of the Alba Mons
00:21:24
volcano located more than 1500 kilometers from Olympus Mons
00:21:28
also support the idea of a vast ocean of liquid water once
00:21:32
occupying much of the Red Planet's northern lowlands. The
00:21:36
island of Olympus Mons itself would have been huge about the
00:21:40
size of France landscapes that look like bays, seashores and
00:21:45
even ancient beaches surround the Martian northern lowlands.
00:21:49
Adding further evidence to the idea of a vast Martian Ocean
00:21:53
having once covered much of the Red Planet's northern
00:21:55
hemisphere. Back at a time when Mars was still a warm wet world
00:22:00
rather than the freeze dried desert. It's become today.
00:22:04
Scientists say precise dating of these volcanic rocks would
00:22:07
provide a considerable amount of information about the climatic
00:22:10
evolution of the Red Planet this Space Time and time.
00:22:32
Now to take another brief look at some of the other stories
00:22:34
making news in science. This week. With the Science Report,
00:22:38
there are growing warnings today that ancient pathogens which
00:22:42
have been trapped for millennia are now emerging from melting
00:22:45
ice and permafrost due to the effects of climate change.
00:22:49
A new global study by the European Commission joint
00:22:52
research Center and Flinders University has been examining
00:22:55
the ecological risk posed by the release of these unpredictable
00:22:58
ancient microbes. A report in the journal PLOS Computational
00:23:02
Biology claims computer simulations show the release of
00:23:05
just one per cent of dormant pathogens could cause major
00:23:09
environmental damage and widespread loss of organisms
00:23:12
around the world.
00:23:15
Archaeologists in Israel have discovered another 2000 year old
00:23:19
Rebel Jewish coin dating back to the anti Roman revolts. The rare
00:23:24
half shackle coin in described with the words the Holy
00:23:27
Jerusalem in Hebrew was dug up in the Angadi Nature Reserve in
00:23:30
the Judean Desert. The coin is dated to the year 66 67 when the
00:23:36
Roman Empire destroyed the second Jewish temple on the site
00:23:39
of Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
00:23:41
Continued rebellion against Rome over the following 200 years
00:23:45
known as the Jewish Roman wars eventually led to Rome killing
00:23:49
most of the Jews through a program of systematic ethnic
00:23:52
cleansing with a few remaining survivors, either displaced or
00:23:56
sold into slavery and or dispersed to the far reaches of
00:23:59
the Roman Empire.
00:24:01
What today is known as the Jewish diaspora. With most of
00:24:04
the land's traditional Jewish owners, either dead or banished
00:24:07
by Rome. The provinces of Israel and Judea were renamed Syria,
00:24:12
Palestina or Roman Palestine. The first ever time that name
00:24:16
was used to identify the traditional Jewish homeland.
00:24:21
A new study has changed the hypothesis that Scottish
00:24:24
folklore's infamous lightness monster is a species of giant
00:24:28
eel. The latest findings reported in the journal Generic
00:24:32
Bio challenges. The popular theory using previous estimates
00:24:36
of the monster's size to predict the probability of encountering
00:24:39
a large eel of similar size today.
00:24:42
Instead, the study found that giant eels simply could not
00:24:45
account the sightings of larger animals in the freshwater
00:24:48
Scottish Highlands lake which is connected to the North Sea by a
00:24:51
narrow channel based on ill catch data from Loch Ness and
00:24:56
other freshwater bodies in Europe.
00:24:57
Scientists found the chances of encountering a meter long eel in
00:25:01
Loch Ness is somewhere around 50 or one. And the
00:25:04
probability of finding an even larger Loch Ness monster sized
00:25:08
eel tens of meters long is virtually zero. A previous Loch
00:25:12
Ness environmental DNA study by the University Of Otago found no
00:25:16
evidence for any exotic life forms in the loch.
00:25:19
At least none, which could explain the mythical creature
00:25:22
often thought to be a remnant community of plesiosaurs from
00:25:26
the age of the dinosaur. The environmental DNA study also
00:25:30
ruled out sturgeons, sharks, otters and seals instead
00:25:34
suggesting that large eels provided the most likely
00:25:37
explanation.
00:25:39
Samsung's had a busy week unveiling its next generation
00:25:42
devices with folding screens. The release includes the popular
00:25:46
Z flip phone and new water resistant tablets and smart
00:25:50
watches with the details. We're joined by technology editor Alex
00:25:54
Sahara Rout from tech advice style live.
00:25:56
ALEX ZAHAROV-REUTT: Samsung has launched a range of new devices.
00:25:59
We have the galaxy Z flip five which is their flip phone. It
00:26:03
now has a 3.4 inch screen on the front as well as a 6.7 inch
00:26:07
screen inside. Now, the crease is meant to be a little bit less
00:26:11
noticeable but it's still there and the front screen, you can
00:26:15
actually swipe it left and right and up and down.
00:26:17
It's got various additions to be able to text people to accept
00:26:21
balls to look at photographs, to use it as a selfie camera. And
00:26:24
you have a lot of little refinements and still using one
00:26:27
UI 5.1 0.1. So many of the experiences that people are used
00:26:31
to are the same.
00:26:32
But you now have this newer foldable where both sides of the
00:26:35
phone fold flat against each other, even though it seems to
00:26:38
still be a hinge inside where it's obviously not falling
00:26:41
completely flat because well glass can't do that. And of
00:26:44
course, it's using the Snap Dragon Eight gen two processor
00:26:47
made for Samsung Galaxy.
00:26:48
You have 256 gig and five versions of eight giga Ram. Then
00:26:52
you have the fold five which has a 6.2 not as wide screen on the
00:26:56
outside and a 7.6 inch larger screen on the inside. Again,
00:26:59
teardrop shaped hinge, double rail on the hinge, the sides
00:27:02
fold down flatt next to each other. So you know, there's a
00:27:05
tiny imperceptible gap, not as big as a gap we had before same
00:27:08
processor.
00:27:09
You've got 12 gigabyte versions coming in 2005 65 12 and one
00:27:12
terabyte, a slimmer pen, more gestures for multitasking, more
00:27:16
ways to make multitasking work. You also have some new galaxy
00:27:20
six devices. You've got the Galaxy Watch Six and the six
00:27:23
classic.
00:27:23
Then you have three tablets, the S the S nine plus and the S nine
00:27:26
ultra in various sizes. So those represent the latest devices
00:27:31
from Samsung, the ecosystem of Samsung devices, the latest
00:27:34
version of Android and the way that Samsung's multitasking
00:27:37
works. And you do have a lot of competitors from Oppo Motorola.
00:27:40
Even Google now has the Google fold, which is similar to the
00:27:44
Samsung fold, but it doesn't use a stylus. So there is
00:27:47
competition out there. But the world's best foldable devices
00:27:50
and the most advanced are still coming from Samsung. And we just
00:27:53
have to imagine that Apple, for example, is waiting to see how
00:27:56
all of this plays out.
00:27:57
So that when it comes along with its version of a foldable and
00:28:01
fable device, it will be able to learn from all the experiences
00:28:05
of all these previous models. So look, you can see all these
00:28:07
details on my website. Global availability should be August
00:28:10
18th. So a little bit of a while to go but offers are available
00:28:14
now.
