1020: My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (reviewed)

Staying true to its predecessors from 2002 and 2016, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" delivers a feel-good experience. The Porto Carlos family is all set for a Greek adventure, having received an invitation to a reunion in their father's ancestral village. Before his passing, Gus, Toulouse's father, entrusted her with a journal to share with his old pals. The family's journey is not just about the reunion but also a tribute to Gus's legacy. Upon their arrival at Athens Airport, the enthusiastic town mayor, Victory Malena Kacelou, greets them. Their transportation? An old truck with Toulouse at the wheel. The village, however, presents an eerie emptiness, with a mysterious woman making frequent appearances. Toulouse (Neo Vidalos) and her husband Ian John Corbett's daughter, Paris, reconnects with Aristotle, someone she had previously distanced herself from. The reason behind their past disconnect is unveiled as the story progresses. Family secrets await Toulouse and her brother Nick, with Nick's peculiar grooming habits being a point of humor. Filmed predominantly in Athens and Kourfou, the movie is bound to resonate with the Australian Greek audience. Writer and director Neo Vidalos masterfully blends cultural humor into the narrative. The film's visual appeal is undeniable, showcasing the beauty of Greece. Characters like Aunt Vula, played by Andrea Martin, and Mayor Malena Cacillou stand out with their vibrant performances. While "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" has moments reminiscent of a sitcom, it retains the charm that has made the series beloved by fans. Alex First's rating? A solid 6 out of 10.

In keeping with the original, It came out in two thousand and two and the sequel in two thousand and sixteen. My Big Fat Greek Wedding three is very much in feel good territory five four, three two one here music. This is movies first with Alex first. The extended Porta Carlos family is in fine voice. Everyone is wanting to have their say on a trip to Greece that comes about because they've been sent an invitation to attend a reunion for those that have moved away from the village that their father came from before he passed away. Tula's dad, Gus, asked her to be at the gathering. He wanted her to meet three of his old friends and pass on to them a journal he kept of his life's story. In turn, the Porta Carlos family would like to see where Gus grew up and honor his memory. The invitation originated from the extremely passionate town mayor Victory Molina could Sellu who is there to meet the clan at Athens Airport. Thereafter, they're immediately bundled into a rickety old truck with Tula driving. When they arrive at the village, Immediately noticeable is an absence of people wandering around in circles. A lady with an all but permanent scowl frightens them, and she constantly pops up Thereafter, Tula played by Niavedalos and her husband Ian John Corbett's daughter Paris Elena Kampurus, finds herself warm into a nice guy that she ghosted, Aristotle Elias Carvas. It's only late in the movie we find out why she pushed him away. She's holding a secret close to her chest. Talking of reveals Tula and her brother Nick Louie Mandelore are in for a shock as they return to their family roots. I should mention that much is made of Nick's grooming habits, which are decidedly off putting. Shot primarily in Athens and on the island of Corfu, My Big Fat Greek Wedding three will no doubt have an enthusiastic Australian Greek audience. As previously, writer and director Nie of Adallas again pushes cultural tropes with warmth and good humor. Many of the jokes may be cheesy, but the culturally specific audience I saw the film with lapped it all up. It's also a very good looking film. With the scenery and cinematography thereof no doubt delighting the Greek National Tourism Organization. It's the larger than life characters that continue to give the franchise buoyancy. They're painted as respectful but opinionated. Foremost amongst them is the scene stealing Andrea Martin as aunt Vula, her self confidant look at me performance is a treat. Her comic turn is matched by Melina Katsillu, who brings a unique sensibility to her hands on role as mayor. Overall, while My Big Fat Greek Wedding three has a manufactured sitcom feel to it some may cringe, it maintains the flow that's made the series a fan favorite. It scores a six out of ten.
